Introducing Alice Alva
I am delighted to announce that New Zealand artist and designer Alice Alva is collaborating with Elle Landon to provide beautiful and unique packaging. It is her work you see on my Luxury Face Oil box and now her designs will grace all of my products.
Alice is a multi-disciplinary artist who, in her own words, works across drawing and illustration, photography, digital media, and graphic design. Her work is informed by an interest in patterns, ornamentation, flora and fauna, architecture, humor and pop culture. She earned a Bachelor of Media Arts (Visual Arts) degree from the Waikato Institute of Technology in 2007 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Visual Communication Design with Distinction from Massey University, Wellington in 2014. That said, I fell in love with her style and art at first sight.
I found Alice unwittingly through her art on Tumblr, and thinking it was a stock image, selected the image to use on my luxury facial oil box. When later I learned that it was her art that was gracing my boxes, and thus without her knowledge, I was distraught. I decided to send her a letter expressing to her what happened and my hope that we could work together. As you can imagine, I received a reply from a passionate artist who wasn’t too happy that her design had been copied without attribution or permission. I then wrote her that I would cease to use her image in any way. A few days later I received another letter agreeing to collaborate. Needless to say, I was overjoyed.
I feel so fortunate that Alice’s beautiful art will be the first thing people see when they look over my skincare/perfume line. A customer recently told me that they saved the box to my Face Oil (from Alice’s work “Autumn feel”) and displays it on a shelf in her house. I hope you enjoy the visual first as much as I do, and then hopefully love the product that lies beneath her lovely art.
